CLG Mold Xperts: Why are flood restoration services required?

St Cloud, United States - January 30, 2023 / CLG Mold Xperts /

What is flood restoration?

The process of restoring a building to its pre-flooding condition in terms of appearance, structural strength, and overall health is called flood restoration.

In case of minor water damage, essential cleaning and water removal might do the trick. But, when flooding happens on a larger scale, the repair operation would include replacing damaged materials and rebuilding the structural strength of the premises also.

No matter the extent of flood damage, repairing a home to its previous pristine state is always possible with the help of certified and fully trained flood restoration services like CLG Mold Xperts in St. Could, Florida, and nearby areas.

What are the different types of floods?

Earlier geography and weather determined the flood-prone regions of the world. But these days, with changing climate patterns, global warming, massive construction, and excessive consumption of natural resources, flooding has become a daily norm in dryer areas, too. Flooding has been classified into four types which are as the following:

  1. Overland Floods: This is typically defined as excessive water flow on land generally classified as dry land. This region is not prone to flooding. A dam failure in the area, heavy rainfall or rapid snowmelt, and stream or river banks overflowing by sudden and extreme weather conditions can cause this type of flooding.
  2. Coastal Floods: These typically happen to low-lying areas near coastal shores or large lakes, which are categorized as dry regions but get inundated with water flow due to high tides, storm surges, extreme onshore winds, and unexpectedly high rainfall.
  3. Urban Floods: Modern cities are increasingly being built with concrete and steel, which are highly impregnable materials. These massive urban settlements are often densely packed with building structures that tend to overwhelm the drainage systems with the outflow of wastewater being discharged. Combine this with heavy precipitation, and large quantities of water cannot percolate into the surrounding earth, which in most cases is covered with cemented pavements. As a result, colossal water logging occurs in cities whenever a bout of rainfall happens. In the event of the rains continuing for a longer duration, the water logging becomes flooding as the water levels rise and begin entering the buildings. This phenomenon is called urban flooding.
  4. Flash Floods: As the name suggests, this flooding happens suddenly and causes grave damage to life and property. Flash floods are often seen in hilly regions and result from massive construction activities. The rampant felling of trees, concretization of forest floors, dumping of plastic and construction waste into water bodies and low-lying areas, and excessive use of machinery to break the ground have led to rapid water runoffs in the hills as the soil can no longer absorb the water. Combined with a heavy downpour, the volume of water exceeds expectations and produces sudden and colossal flooding. Since this is coming down a mountain, the flood waters accumulate stones, branches, garbage, waste materials, and other kinds of debris which can cause a lot of harm to life and property.
